Until today, this blog linked to a static and outdated list of bike shops controlled elsewhere by the publisher, out-there.com. It was listed in the "Cycling Resources" links along the right side of this page and its inadequacy always bugged me.
I have updated this resource using Google maps to provide geographic information and to link to the individual businesses where possible so that one source is not controlling the information. The information lives in Google maps and is searchable via . You may select "user created content" from the Search Options drop-down. I will also provide the file for you to import into both Google Earth and Google Maps. Please let us know if you use this tool and if you have suggestions for improvement. In particular, I would like to know how it works for you in a mobile format (cellphone) and whether you are able to properly modify listings using the open source Google Maps.
The idea is to give people a way to find repair and rental shops in a given area. Intentionally left out are retailers that do not provide repair service, such as Canadian Tire.
