What gets me about all this is that they are most likely going to accomplish nothing.
They will clean up the area, destroy trails, etc. and then a week later people will be building again. At worst it will be an annoyance.
They know they have a problem with illegal, badly built trails causing erosion. MTBers have proven in other cities that given the chance to build legal, sustainable trails they will respect them and police themselves so why cause bad blood?
If they want ADSVMQ has the expertise to create a sustainable trail system and could probably round up enough volunteers to solve their issues for them in a handful of weekends - no taxpayers dollars spent. Instead they round up their own volunteers to destroy trails that will just be rebuilt again and probably as badly as before.
Look at Vancouver's North Shore - the famous chainsaw massacre made no difference, riders just rebuilt. If anything it was probably a positive thing in the long run, it showed the need for the riders there to present a unified front to local govt. and they seem to have had quite a bit of success recently in their advocacy efforts.
