''Hi,
I am taking a few minutes to write you as an avid mountain bike enthusiast that is in the market for a wheelset upgrade. I am a big supporter of local bike shops, trying to keep the money local, and am torn with this most recent purchase I intend on making.
After researching for my desired wheelset, I have stopped my choice on Mavic CrossTrail disk's, I have come to realize a HUGE difference in price between this wheelset in Canada and the States. The wheelset is listed at 474 USD and when I stopped into my LBS, I was told they were at 780 CAD (list out of your catalog). I don't mind paying the taxes nor a little more for my parts for the convenience and support to the local bike shop but there are limits. We are talking about a 305 CAD difference (factoring in the fluctuating exchange rate).
My question is this, how is it that this difference still exists? Many other industries have reacted the the Canadian dollars strength and have adjusted their prices to protect retail markets as well as pass on the savings to the consumer. Why is the mountain bike parts industry still so far off?
I realize that this is quite an email for a Monday morning but I was really shocked to learn that such a huge difference still existed between Canada and the States. If you foresee the price being adjusted to reflect our currency's strength, I will wait and buy local, if not, I cannot justify paying 300$ more.
Thank you''
